Centro Car Kits
Centro car kits enable you to position your Centro for use in your car. Centro car kits add a degree of safety by positioning the Centro before you set off and enabling you to see who is calling without needing to fiddle about finding and holding your Centro. For added safety they can be easily combined with a wired or bluetooth headset for total handsfree experience. A few Centro Car kits offer charging options and some offer bluetooth speakerphones. Very few are made for a specific type of Centro or even smartphone so you will not have the compatibility issues that exist for other kinds of Centro accessories.
It's worth noting that some Centro accessories include very good quality car kits; the Palm GPS kit, for example, not only comes with a good quality Centro vehicle mount but also a car lighter charger as well.
Several Centro car kit types are available and the most popular are described below many are generic and will fit both a Treo or Centro.
Centro Car Mounts
These take
the form of a short, flexible stalk anchored at one end by a vent clip or suction mount and tipped at the other end by an
adjustable holder. Most feature a generic holder than can be re-purposed for a multitude of devices. In these generic types the Centro will sit
vertically in the holder. Custom Centro vehicle mounts are available that feature a swivel mount. They are also known
as Centro vehicle mounts.
Lighter Mounts
Like the car mount some have a short flexible stalk with the holder at one end and a 12V lighter connector at the other.
Few if any will charge your Centro but have the benefit, should your car be suitably designed, of being less bulky and not requiring a
flat surface on which to place the suction cup. In California it's apparently unlawful to have any significant device mounted on the
windscreen such that it obscures your view of the road a head.
Bluetooth Car Kits
Since the Centro
features Bluetooth 1.2 you will find a variety of bluetooth car kits that may suit your needs.
The car kits create an in-car speakerphone without wires. Simply pair your Centro with the kit and you can begin handsfree speakerphone
operation within seconds leaving your Centro in its case or pocket. Some kits anable you to make as well as receive calls without touching the Centro.
They are, however, farily expensive compared to a more flexible car kit + bluetooth headset style solution.
